Full Day Elephant Sanctuary
Visit the Khao Sok Elephant Sanctuary for a 4-5 hour educational 'Elephant Care' program. Learn about the daily routine of the domesticated Asian elephant in Thailand. It is different from the 'Elephant Experience' that we offer. It gives you more insight and knowledge of the daily lives of elephants.
This ethical elephant experience is run by our trusted partner, whose family has cared for the gentle giants for many generations. Their focus is on animal welfare and eco-tourism. The elephants have been rescued from carrying tourists and the logging industry. You won't find any elephant riding here!
- It is located around 45 minutes from Our Jungle House.
- The Khao Sok Elephant Sanctuary is structured like a rural Thai village, where thirty people live and work together with their elephants and families.
- You will be introduced to the elephant keeper or mahout (Kwan Chang) who will explain more about the daily routine of handling these majestic creatures.
- Together you will give them a quick health check, before going for a guided walk with your companion through the vast Jungle property.
- When you return, help prepare a meal for them. Mash up a healthy food mix to feed to your new friend. This is a great time to take memorable pictures.
- Afterwards you are welcome to follow the ancient tradition of scrubbing the elephant with a piece of vine. Harvested from a special tree it is used to care for the elephant's skin.
- If you still have enough energy, you'll be invited to assist in planting more food crops as part of the 'Elephant Conservation' program.
- You will be served a healthy lunch before or after your visit depending on whether you come in the morning or the afternoon. Enjoy delicious Thai dishes while overlooking the elephants and the rolling hillsides of Phang Nga.
The program ends with a friendly goodbye as you return to Our Jungle House.
