Let's talk with Mike, director of the Khao Sok Jungle Life Camp, to understand more about how we interact with the local community.

Could you explain to us, in a few words, what Jungle Life Camp is?

Jungle Life Camp is the first dedicated kids' camp in Khao Sok focused on nature, conservation, and sustainability. It's a place where students of all ages can learn to love and protect wildlife and become advocates of biodiversity through real life experiences.

We run free nature camps for local children, which are funded by our Jungle Resorts (Our Jungle House and Our Jungle Camp) as well as our activity programs with private and international schools.

At Jungle Life Camp, our four core values guide everything we do.

For the Jungle – Nestled in one of the world's oldest rainforests, we aim to foster a deep connection with nature. Through exploration and reflection, we help our guests understand the delicate balance of ecosystems and inspire them to respect and protect the natural world.

From learning about the impact of human activity on nature to thinking critically about our choices, we encourage every visitor to take what they've learned and carry it forward into their own lives, long after they leave Khao Sok.

What exactly do you do with the kids you take in?

We educate about sustainability, through community-based camps in a natural environment on the resort.

Our student guided approach inspires and empowers the Thai children to be community leaders in sustainability. In concrete terms, what we do:

• Local primary schools bring all their Grade 3 – Grade 6 students to our camp once per year.
• We run activities every weekend for young children based on our four core values.
• Whilst we work with several secondary schools in Surat Thani, there is only one in Khao Sok. Every year we design a new camp for these students that includes looking at sustainability in their school.
• We run a Youth Empowerment program focusing on local teenagers. It includes adventurous activities, service activities, English camps and opportunities to develop leadership skills by working as camp counsellors.
• In the school holidays, we run residential camps for local children of all ages. That usually involves an excursion outside of Khao Sok so that we can learn from other communities. We broaden our perspectives and come back with new ideas for the future. "In 2024, we are proud to have welcomed 1,600 people!"

Is it possible to participate in the camp when I am a visitor?

Yes sure, with the family activity, you can explore different aspects of the camp through safe, specially planned activities. Whether as a family or just for the children, it's a great opportunity to uncover the secrets of the world around us, experience daily camp life, and create lasting memories. This activity is both fun and educational.

Last question, why is this playful spirit so important to you?

Fun is the most important thing! Week after week, children from the local community return to have fun, learn, and share their experiences. The Jungle Life Camp community keeps growing because the children eagerly pass on what they've learned to their classmates, neighbours, and friends.

And as more and more of them join us, it's clear they love discovering the nature that surrounds us. That is something we're incredibly proud of.

At its core, this camp is all about learning through fun! This spirit of joy and sharing is not just our priority—it's our mantra!
