Discovering Khao Sok: my trip into Thailand’s Jungle Paradise
My name is Aude, and I want to share my incredible journey of discovering Khao Sok. After deciding to move to Thailand, I sought a different side of the country before fully diving into my new life. It wasn’t long before I stumbled upon stunning images of Khao Sok National Park, and I was immediately captivated—how had I never heard of this breathtaking destination?
Where I stayed
Khao Sok, located in Surat Thani Province, became my first stop. I was eager to find accommodations that immersed me in nature. That’s when I discovered Our Jungle House, an eco-resort perfectly nestled in the rainforest. Crafted from bamboo and renewable materials, it seamlessly blends with the lush surroundings, making it feel like a natural extension of the jungle.
During my three-night stay, I experienced two unique accommodations. My first night was spent in the "Forest Treehouse", elevated above the jungle floor. The word treehouse could not be more suitable! Access to the forest provided by an open-plan design. I fell asleep to the soothing sounds of nature, feeling truly connected to my environment.
For the next two nights, I stayed in the "River Hut", a charming bungalow at ground level. Surrounded by vibrant plants and trees, this accommodation offered a cozy and immersive experience in the heart of the jungle.
I appreciated the resort's commitment to sustainability, providing filtered water to encourage guests to refill their bottles instead of relying on single-use plastics. The eco-friendly ethos was evident in every detail, showcasing the resort’s dedication to environmental conservation.
Excursions I enjoyed
On my first day, I embarked on a trekking adventure through Khao Sok National Park with a local guide named Jame. His extensive knowledge about the area enriched our four-hour journey. I learned to identify some of the park's incredible flora which includes over 1,000 species of bamboo! Jame shared stories of the locals' deep-rooted connection to the rainforest and their commitment to preserving its beauty and biodiversity.
On my second day, I joined a half-day adventure, combining exploration and relaxation in the heart of Khao Sok. The journey began with a trek to a vast 400-meter cave, truly impressive! I marvelled at its quiet grandeur before making my way back down.
Next, I embarked on a peaceful bamboo rafting trip along the Sok River, drifting past lush jungle scenery. A short break for coffee and a refreshing swim made the experience even more memorable. The adventure wrapped up with a delicious three-course Thai lunch—an unforgettable way to immerse myself in the natural beauty of Khao Sok.
Ultimately, my stay at Our Jungle House could not have been any more magical. I reconnected with nature in ways I hadn’t thought possible. I felt a part of the rainforest during our stay there, and the feelings of admiration and adoration for the natural environment that were planted during our stay with Our Jungle House will stay with us forever.
