Adventures in Khao Sok National Park

In February 2025, I returned to the enchanting Khao Sok National Park in southern Thailand—a place that had captivated me since my first visit in March 2020. This time, I was eager to delve deeper into its lush landscapes and diverse wildlife.

Half Day, Half Night Tour: A Dusk-to-Dawn Adventure

Our adventure began in the afternoon with a guided trek into the national park. Starting on a broad trail, we soon ventured onto narrow paths winding along the river, surrounded by the vibrant flora and fauna of the jungle.

As dusk approached, we gathered bamboo and leaves for our upcoming jungle cooking session. Reaching a serene spot by the river, we took a refreshing dip while our guide prepared a campfire. Using the bamboo we collected, we cooked a traditional Thai dinner over the open flame—a delightful meal enjoyed under the canopy of stars. Source: Hoblets on the Go

The return journey offered a thrilling night safari. Under the glow of our headlamps, we spotted nocturnal creatures like scorpions, spiders, and even a curious owl observing us from the trees. Source: Bamboo Travel

Exploring Khlong Phanom National Park

The next morning, after a hearty breakfast accompanied by playful monkeys, we set out for Khlong Phanom National Park—a less-traveled gem adjacent to Khao Sok. A short but challenging hike led us to the impressive Taew Cave. Inside, we marvled at cathedral-like chambers adorned with stalactites and stalagmites, while cave-dwelling creatures lurked in the shadows. Sournce: Its One World Tavel

Post-lunch, we embarked on a peaceful bamboo rafting journey down the Sok River. The towering limestone cliffs and lush greenery provided a picturesque backdrop as we floated downstream, soaking in the serene beauty of the landscape.

Cheow Lan Lake: The Heart of Khao Sok

Our final adventure took us to the breathtaking Cheow Lan Lake. Opting for an overnight stay, we traveled by boat to our floating accommodation. The afternoon was spent swimming in the turquoise waters and kayaking through the lake's tranquil inlets.

In the evening, we ventured into the Khlong Saeng Wildlife Sanctuary. While elusive elephants remained hidden, we encountered macaques, hornbills, and other wildlife amidst the untouched rainforest. The day's end was marked by a delicious dinner and the mesmerizing sight of the full moon rising over the lake.

The next morning, mist enveloped the lake as we embarked on an early boat safari. Though the elephants stayed out of sight, their distant calls echoed through the forest, adding a touch of mystery to our journey. As the sun pierced through the fog, we bid farewell to this natural paradise, our hearts full of unforgettable memories. Source: Bamboo Travel
